Sparkle Auditions: last week to enter
The 2009 LSIS STAR Awards are giving learners the chance to showcase their skills on stage at the dazzling national STAR Awards ceremony in London on 26 November, in front of an audience of 500 guests. The Sparkle Auditions are looking for learners who have a dynamic skill or perfected performance to entertain guests at the event. Showcase entries can be technical, mechanical, artistic, musical, sporting or practical. If you know learners with a talent, we what to hear from you.

Short list case study
In the lead up to the national ceremony a case study of a short-listed nominee in each category will be viewable on the STAR Awards website. The case studies outline some of the outstanding work being done by our short-listed nominees and illustrate how tough the competition is this year for our nominees. Paul Delmar a lecturer, photojournalism, from Norton College, part of The Sheffield College is short-listed in the lifetime achievement category, and you can view his case study now.

STAR comments
The STAR website has a public comments area where messages are displayed. If you would like to leave a message of support for your nominee, a message of thanks to your nominator, or a general comment about the STAR Awards, then please complete the online form. Many thanks to Beth Elkins from Cambridge Regional College who left this message:
“What a great idea! A national award scheme designed to tell your colleagues how much their work is valued and to let everyone else know how proud you are of the work they do for students. I'm so delighted that my colleague - Chalky - has been short-listed and look forward to celebrating in October with other FE 'heroes'. Thank you.”

Regional events

All short-listed nominees and their nominators will be invited to one of three regional events taking place in Leeds, Birmingham and London, on 7, 8 and 9 October respectively. Guests will be treated to a special lunch, will be entertained by performances from local learners and have the opportunity to share their experiences of working in FE. Previous STAR winners will talk about what winning an award has meant for them and for their organisations.
